Former Brentwood resident Monta Westbrook passed away on Nov. 8 at the age of 78.

Monta was born on Jan. 26, 1932 in Cave Springs, Ark. to Walter and Peggy Beal Swicegood. She was married to Jack L. Westbrook on Feb. 21, 1953 in Reno, Nev. Monta graduated from Liberty High School in Brentwood and moved to Cottage Grove in 1983. She was a member of the Cottage Grove Hospital Auxiliary, the Church of Christ and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and woodworking and was also an avid Oregon Duck fan.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Westbrook of Cottage Grove; daughter, Peggy Westbrook of Cottage Grove; two sons, Larry and David (Shawna) of Cottage Grove; three sisters, Joyce (Ben) Zamora of Antioch, Etta (Dennis) Sanchez of Brentwood and Joan (Keith) Hoehn of Fall Creek, Ore.; brother, Bob Swicegood of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One great-grandson previously passed away.

A celebration of Monta’s life was held at the Cottage Grove Community Center in Cottage Grove. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove made arrangements.
