Discovery Bay’s new Community Services District (CSD) board was sworn in at its regular meeting on Jan. 5, and district board positions were voted on for the coming year.

Kevin Graves will retain his presidency, Brian Dawson will replace Mark Simon as vice president, and Simon will assume the role of president pro-tem.

“I’m really looking forward to the new year,” said Graves. “I feel there’s a lot of positive energy on the board and I think we all feel there’s a lot to be accomplished. We have a good, strong board in place.”

The remainder of the five-member CSD board includes directors Ray Tetreault and newcomer Chris Steele, who ran for one of the available seats left vacant by the departure of longtime Director David Piepho.

Terms for Graves, Dawson and Steele will expire in 2014. Simon and Tetreault’s terms expire in 2012.

First-time board member Steele said that while he’s still acclimating to his new position, he’s optimistic that the incoming board can make a significant difference. “I’ve got great confidence that the board we have in place today is going to be able to maintain and improve our infrastructure in Discovery Bay and steer the town in the proper direction,” said Steele.

“We’ve got some budget and future planning issues to address, and I think prioritizing dollars will be very important to what we do in the coming year. But I’m excited to be here and look forward to a great year.”

Tetreault, the board’s longest-sitting director and a former CSD president, looks forward to a positive, productive year. “I’m anticipating that we’ll get the work done this year in a smooth, professional manner,” said Tetreault. “As a board member, I’m the primary lead on the community center and also the water and sewer (committees), so I’m looking forward to being able to get things going on the community center and working on the new contract we’re entering into, hopefully, with the same water and wastewater vendor we have. It should be a busy year.”

At the same meeting, the board appointed its members to district representative committees for the coming year:

Community Center: Ray Tetreault; Chris Steele, alternate.

Contra Costa County Aviation Advisory Committee: Kevin Graves; Chris Steele, alternate.

Contra Costa County Code Enforcement: Ray Tetreault; Mark Simon, alternate.
