Another powerful pitching performance from sophomore Madison Williams propelled Freedom High’s varsity softball team to a 2-0 victory over Deer Valley on Tuesday. Williams allowed only two hits in the complete-game shutout, fanning eight Wolverines.

Deer Valley (1-10, 0-3 Bay Valley Athletic League) senior pitcher Taylor Newhouse was also impressive, spreading four hits and two runs in a six-inning effort.

Freedom (7-5, 2-1 BVAL) sophomore catcher Iniki Kaleialii finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Heritage 3, Liberty 1

Heritage scored two runs in the sixth inning to top Liberty 3-1 on Tuesday. Sophomore third baseman Kenna Wright rapped out a two-RBI double to give her team the lead.

The Lions (0-12, 0-3 BVAL) scored their only run in the fifth to tie it up when junior Victoria Bradshaw stole home.

Junior pitcher Lisa Rodrigues went the distance for the Patriots (9-5, 4-0 BVAL).

Antioch 5, Pittsburg 0

Antioch combined offense and pitching on Tuesday, blanking Pittsburg 5-0. Senior Paris Imholz tossed a one-hit, complete-game shutout gem, striking out 12 Pirates and collected the game’s lone RBI.

Junior outfielder Morgan Perry went 1-for-2 with a double for Antioch (10-3, 2-1 BVAL). Pittsburg fell to 2-7 (1-1 BVAL).

GOLF

Freedom will host its Eighth Annual Athletic Director’s Golf Tournament on Monday, June 6, at Shadow Lakes Golf Club, 401 W. Country Club Drive in Brentwood. Deer Valley 207, Heritage 210

Deer Valley retained its stronghold on the rest of the BVAL, edging out up-and-coming Heritage on Tuesday 207-210. Wolverines senior Andrew Sirowy carded a 35 on the par 36 Roddy Ranch Golf Course. Deer Valley junior Robert Riel placed second, finishing with 38, tied with lead Patriot Carney Hocking, a sophomore.

Heritage junior Ryan Bell was next with 39.

Liberty 219, Antioch 273

Led by senior Paul Krey’s score of 38, Liberty topped Antioch 219-273 on Tuesday at the par 35 Discovery Bay Country Club. Lions senior Justin Thomas placed second, finishing with a score of 40. The low Antioch finisher was sophomore Josh Mouzakis with 46.

Freedom 261, Pittsburg 271

Freedom came out on top over Pittsburg 261-271 on Tuesday at Shadow Lakes Golf Club. Falcons junior David White led all golfers, carding a 41. Senior Louis Hays was the best Pirate that day, finishing second with 51.

VOLLEYBALL

Antioch 3, Pittsburg 0


In three straight sets, Antioch toppled Pittsburg on Tuesday 25-10, 28-26 and 25-17. Senior setter D.J. Morales made 18 assists and three kills. Senior outside hitter Tyler Evans was credited with nine kills and six aces. Freshman outside hitter Daniel Gonzales led the Pirates with six aces.

Heritage 3, Liberty 1

Nine kills and seven digs from senior middle blocker Oliver Guernsey helped Heritage earn its second BVAL victory by defeating Liberty in four sets 27-25, 18-25, 26-24 and 27-25. Senior outside hitter Matt Maderos recorded 11 digs and eight kills for the Patriots.
