The East Contra Costa Historical Society invites the public to a free day of fun in celebration of California History Day at the Society’s museum, 3890 Sellers Ave. in Brentwood, on Saturday, May 14 from noon to 4 p.m.

The event features costumed, docent-led museum tours, an extensive Civil War exhibit, cow-milking demonstration and spinning-wheel demonstration by the Brentwood Spinners. Attendees can try their hand at gold panning or get their picture taken on the museum’s 1947 fire engine. Also augmenting the festivities are a classic car show, craft fair and informational vendors.

Music will be provided by the Byron Station bluegrass band. The Delta Square Dance Group will perform at 1:30 p.m. And valuable prizes will be awarded in the inaugural Best Shot photo contest, for which more than 100 entries have been submitted.

A lunch of hot dogs, chips and a beverage will be offered for $5 by the Brentwood Rotary.

For those who miss California History Day, the museum is open to the public every Saturday and the third Sunday of the month from April through October between 2 and 4 p.m.

To reserve a vendor table, call Ginny Karlberg 925-513-1281. For general information, call Kathy Leighton at 925-634-0917.
