Brentwood welcomed one of its own back from Afghanistan recently with a 29-motorcycle escort and Welcome Home ceremony for U.S. Army Spec/4 Clinton Rarey, back row center in black T-shirt, getting the traditional thumbs-up greeting from the Warrior Watch Riders, firefighters and members of his family.

Rarey’s unit – Company E, 31st Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, 595th Sapper Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion – deployed in May of 2010. Rarey’s company was attached to a number of front-line units, including the United States 1st Cavalry and 10th Mountain Division, as well as German and British units. His job included deconstruction.

A Class of 2007 graduate of Liberty High School, Rarey was a varsity football player and JV golfer. After a year and a half of college, he followed a Rarey family tradition and joined the military. He married his wife, Anjelina, on April 30. His parents are Karen and Paul Rarey, who have another son, Tony, currently deployed with the Army.

Arranged by the Warrior Watch Riders, Diablo Valley Flag Brigade and other veteran support groups, the Welcome Home event drew a crowd of about 100.
