Regular exercise is a key component to getting and staying healthy. But for many, the fundamental challenge is simply finding the time to exercise.

Brentwood residents Ken and Jennifer Challberg, who own and operate Oakley’s newest gym, California Fitness 24/7 (in the Lucky’s shopping center), have lots of experience helping people find time to get fit. Jen has more than 25 years of experience in the fitness industry, working in all aspects of the business. Before owning California Fitness 24/7, she was vice president of operations for Bally Total Fitness in this area.

Ken has worked in fitness for the last 12 years, as a personal trainer and supervisor of personal training programs at various health clubs. Together, Jennifer and Ken decided to branch out from the corporate fitness world and open their first California Fitness location in Manteca. The couple later opened another location in Martinez.

“We have everything here for great workouts,” said Ken during a walk-through of the facility, which features Life Fitness and PreCor equipment. There are over 20 different cardio machines, including treadmills, ellipticals and stepmills. Weight lovers can choose from a selection of Life Fitness Selectorize weight machines or a variety of free weights. While the Oakley location doesn’t offer group exercise classes, it does offer small-group training as well as boot camps for up to eight people.

The Challbergs understand how difficult it can be to make the time to work out. For about a dollar a day, California Fitness 24/7 members gain access to the gym all day, every day, working out at a time convenient for them. “Even if you commute, you can get in a great workout in,” said Ken.

Members who want an extra push can take advantage of California Fitness 24/7’s personal training services. Personal training is tailored to the individual client. Sessions typically include a full body workout to maximize calorie burn, plus nutrition counseling.

Ken and Jen take pride in their business, and work every day at their facility. Ken continues serving as a personal trainer while Jen works hands-on in other aspects of the business. “We make it more personable than your everyday corporate gyms,” said Jen. “We have a non-intimidating environment. You can feel comfortable here, whether you’re an avid fitness buff or just starting out.”

California Fitness 24/7, located at 2515 Main St., is accessible to members via a card system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The front desk is manned from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. The club’s phone number is 925-679-2348 and the website is www.californiafitness247.com.
