Freedom High School Class of 2011 graduate Katie Wood was recently honored with the Violet Richardson Citizenship Award from the Soroptomists of the Delta, and recognized for her academic and community accomplishments at a recent Oakley City Council meeting, where Mayor Jim Frazier read a proclamation in her honor.

A volunteer at Shriner’s Hospital and the Oakley Almond Festival, Wood will attend the University of Missouri in the fall on a softball scholarship for the Division II Tritons. She will study biology and hopes to attend medical school to become a reconstructive plastic surgeon.
