“We all know how sweet and delicious corn is eaten right off the cob, but we want to know what other things people are doing with it,” said Press editor Rick Lemyre. “Partnering with KSFO will mean we’ve got some great exposure and great prizes for the contest, and I can’t wait to see what we get.”
Contest prizes will include dinner at local restaurants, movie tickets and tickets to Bay Area concerts starring Rascal Flatts, Toby Keith, and Kid Rock with Sheryl Crow.
In addition to being eligible for a prize, all recipes will be published on The Press Web site. They’ll also be part of the discussion on the radio show Edible Escapes with Ken and Anthony on KSFO 560AM.
The criterion for the contest is simple: the dish must contain corn (it needn’t be Brentwood-grown). Recipes may be e-mailed to rick@brentwoodpress.com or dropped off at The Press offices at 248 Oak St. in Brentwood. You can also enter at www.thepress.net/corn_recipe and at www.ksfo.com/edibleescapes. If we get enough submissions, the recipes will also appear in a special 2011 CornFest Corn Cookbook.
Entries will be judged on flavor and originality. The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5. Five contestants will be chosen to bring their dishes to the CornFest on Saturday morning for judging.
The CornFest, presented by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, opens Friday, July 8 and runs through Sunday, July 10. Hours are Friday from 3 to 10 p.m.; Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Due to construction in downtown Brentwood, the event will be held in a new, temporary location this year at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Sand Creek Road.
Tickets are $10 for general admission; $5 for children 6 to 12 and seniors 62 and over. Children 5 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, 8440 Brentwood Blvd., Suite C. For more information, call 925-634-3344.
