Editor:

I would like the people of Brentwood to realize what in fact they are doing by ignoring our no-fireworks laws. Not only are you putting all of us in danger of fire, and taxing our city’s services by not following the laws.

There is another part of our community that is paying a high price for your two minutes of fun. Do any of you realize what you are doing to the animals of our city? The same animals that you and your children stop and pet. These animals have no way to get away from the noise. They have very sensitive ears and hearing. They are left to suffer.

Even the ones in homes where they are loved and cared for, we are at a loss as to what we can do to help them through these trying times. They are upset, scared, barking and crying. Mine are medicated, something that is very hard on their system. I have not been able to go to a barbecue or away from home in the last week. I have three large dogs that are totally freaked out by this uncontrollable, constant, deafening noise that causes them pain and discomfort.

Please, the next time you think about planning your holiday, find a way that does not cause stress and confusion for our pets. We would all appreciate your thoughtfulness and understanding. We do live where fireworks, firecrackers and M80s are against the law. Let’s try and conform to that, or go where they are allowed. Help me be kind to my pets, and your neighbors be kind to their pets. Help us keep our community safe. Do not set off any kind of fireworks here in East Contra Costa County.
