Classroom doors will soon be swinging open, and parents searching for a quality, Christian-based preschool and daycare facility can find a home at the Wee Care Preschool and Child Center in Brentwood.

“We’ve got room in a number of our classes and age groups,” said Director Adrienne Lough. “And it’s a really fun place to be. We combine teacher-directed learning with hands-on play and make this a great place for children to learn and grow.”

The preschool and child center – located on the grounds of Resurrection Ministries in Brentwood – incorporates Christian teachings, daily Bible study and weekly chapel in its curriculum, but does not require that members belong to the church itself.

The programs, offered for children 6 weeks to 12 years old, include infant and child care development, toddler care, preschool, Pre-K and before-and-after-school programs. All of the programs are all designed to meet the needs and interests of the individual student while conveying age-appropriate curriculum and structure.

So while the students are painting and playing and building with blocks, they’re also building self-esteem.

“We’re teaching the children how to learn,” said Lough. “But we’re also, through our structured classes, giving them a sense of autonomy that allows them to build their self-confidence. That’s one of the reasons our hands-on play is so important.”

Large play areas are located in and outside the center, allowing for a variety of play for students in all kinds of weather. Breakfast, along with morning snacks and afternoon snacks, are offered each day. Transportation to and from school is provided for older students enrolled in the before-and-after-school programs. And during the school break, field trips and special programs are part of the summer curriculum.

Wee Care’s toddler and 2-year-old classroom is designed to encourage growth and development in language, social skills and age-appropriate learning skills.

The preschool and pre-K curriculum also includes language, math, science, worship, practical life, art, blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, children’s discovery and outside play, according to the center’s website.

The school-age program offers year-round homework time, worship, woodworking, sports, crafts, cooking and extracurricular activities during school breaks and summer vacation. And while each age group is offered something different in terms of learning and playing, one thing they all share, according to Lough, is a sense of togetherness and community.

“Every person on staff knows each student here, whether they are in their classroom or not,” said Lough. “And that’s a big thing and it helps create a wonderful community. We love what we do and we’re all here because we love children. I feel very blessed – we all do – to be here.”

Wee Care Pre School and Child Center, 1275 Fairview Ave. in Brentwood, is open Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For additional information, visit www.resurrection_brentwood.org or call 925-634-5180.
