He’s actually an Eagle Scout candidate, but to the people at the Brentwood Senior Center, he might as well be a media mogul.

Alex Yates, a member of Boy Scout Troop 159 in Brentwood, recently completed his Eagle project aimed at bolstering the center’s meager offerings of DVDs, CDs and VHS tapes. The results, more than 1,500 items, outstripped the center’s ability to store them.

“The seniors were thrilled,” Alex said by e-mail after delivering the donations this week. “They have two extra shelves that are on order and will be arriving any day. These shelves will be used to house the newly acquired additions to the media library.”

Most of the donations came from the Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge subdivisions, the parishioners of St. Anne Church in Byron and the families of Troops 159 and 90. And while the outpouring of support was great, it was the recipients who made Alex’s day.

“The highlight moment for me was talking and working side by side with the seniors,” he said. “This truly made this project a Brentwood community event. … I sincerely thank all of the Boy Scouts, adult BSA Troop leaders, the Brentwood seniors, the City of Brentwood, family and friends for all of the assistance with making this project happen. It sure felt good to help out the seniors. They were so happy to have us there.”
