The community welcomed home another warrior last week. Marine Lance Cpl. Derek Gaffett, a 2009 graduate of Liberty High, got a surprise when dozens of Warrior Watch and American Legion Riders descended on a local coffee house where he was enjoying a cup with his grandmother.

After a brief escort to McClarren Park, Gaffett discovered dozens more people and a fully decorated picnic area awaiting him. He joined the Marines at 17, graduating boot camp as a private first class.

A mechanic with the 3521 Mechanic 3rd LAR H&S Company, Gaffett served in Afghanistan from last November until his return on May 27. Welcome home and thanks for your service, Derek!
