Fresh and delectable produce is available every week at the Brentwood Farmers’ Market, but if you show up on the first Saturday of the month you’ll also find people who can help you grow some of those goodies yourself.

On Saturday, Aug. 6, the Contra Costa Master Gardeners – trained volunteers for the University of California Cooperative Extension – will be happy to answer your gardening or pest-control questions. Look for the Master Gardeners booth at the market on First Street between Oak and Chestnut streets in downtown Brentwood.

Master Gardeners encourage sustainable gardening methods that lead to conserving water, sending less to landfills and maximizing the effectiveness of the soils in far East County. The group will also provide printed materials covering topics such as lawn care, composting, drought-tolerant plants and where to find gardening classes in Contra Costa County.

All advice and information at the Master Gardener booth is free, and seed packets are also available at no cost. The Brentwood Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday through October from 8 a.m. to noon.
