Caltrans and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority recently announced a round of road closures in Antioch as workers continue to widen Highway 4 to four lanes in each direction.

According to a press release from the California Department of Transportation, both directions of Somersville Road will be closed overnight for an estimated three weeks at the intersection of Somersville and Highway 4. Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, workers will block off the Somersville Road underpass Monday through Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Friday nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Work on that part of Highway 4 is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 2.

“This closure is to ensure crew and public safety while crews install temporary supports for construction of one of the new bridges at Somersville Road,” the press release states.

Signs will be in place directing motorists around the work zone via Delta Fair Boulevard and Century Boulevard.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for their commute.
