Elizabeth (Betty) McGinnis, a resident of Eskaton Lodge in Brentwood, passed away peacefully on Sept. 2, 2011. She was 89. Betty previously resided in Alameda, and Scottsdale, Ariz. for more than 40 years. She recently moved to Brentwood to be closer to her family.

Betty was born and raised in Illinois. She earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics and was a high school teacher. The mother of six children, Betty was a self-employed interior design decorator. Her varied interests included Southwest Indian culture, art, reading, quilting, traveling, minerals and antiques.

She is survived by her children, Diane Williams and husband Roland; Celesta LaBlanc and husband Steve; David McGinnis and wife Barbara; Robert McGinnis and wife Kay; Michael McGinnis and wife Susan; plus six grandsons, Jim, Chris, Trevor, Derek, Brady and Ellory; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Harn of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Edith, and her parents, LeRoy and Edith Harn.

Family and friends are invited to attend services on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2800 Camino Diablo Road in Byron. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Brentwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Glaucoma Society Department 34648, P.O. Box 39000, San Francisco, CA 94139.
