Born in Houston, Texas, he began attending Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He enlisted in the Marines and served in Korea, where he became a prisoner of war. Following his return from Korea, he finished his studies at Baylor and became a minister of his own Southern Baptist church.

He came to California to continue his studies in the seminary college and went to work as a guard at San Quentin prison. He met his wife, Bonnie, on a blind date. After they married, they moved to Concord, where he started to work at the juvenile hall as a supervisor. Following the family’s move to Brentwood, he became an adult probation officer for Contra Costa County and eventually retired. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Brentwood and a member of the VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Bonnie; his daughters, Bonnie L. Lane and Claretta Lane; sons, Franklin (Rick) Lane and Dwight Lane; and grandson, Robert (Danny) Lane. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
