The City of Oakley is hosting a free, backyard composting workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 3231 Main St.

Composting yard trimmings and food scraps is easy, good for yards and gardens and kind to the environment. The practice also saves money and water and conserves natural resources.

The city will be selling high-quality SoilSaver compost bins during the workshop to Oakley residents for $46.20. Bins typically retail for $100. Residents unable to attend the workshop, but can’t wait to start composting, may purchase a compost bin at City Hall for $66. Only workshop attendees will receive the discount price.
