Discovery Bay resident Trevor Hudson, who attended Timber Point Elementary and Excelsior Middle School, started his ninth-grade year at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M.

A full 97 percent of the institute’s graduates go on to attend one of the four service academies.

Hudson plans to attend West Point or Annapolis in pursuit of a career as an engineer officer. Since he returns to Discovery Bay only on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring and summer breaks, his family sends him The Press to keep him feeling close to home and friends.

It’s really hard for Hudson’s mom, but “since we gave them their wings, we have to let them fly.”
