The Brentwood City Council will hold a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. to discuss the City's zoning and possible impacts of large-scale retailers.

The meeting was called by Mayor Bob Taylor to be sure he and the Council were up to date on the status of City zoning with regard to big-box retailers. Although no application has been received by the city, owners of the Sciortino Ranch at the corner of Brentwood Boulevard and Sand Creek Road have held talks with Target, Costco and Walmart about possibly developing the property. The current zoning on the 65-acre allows large-scale retailers, but residents and business owners say building a big-box store at Sciortino Ranch would have huge negative impacts on local businesses and community.

On Thursday, the Council will "Discuss, consider options, and direct staff and the Planning Commission, as appropriate, regarding the status of zoning regulations affecting large retail uses citywide and for specific properties," according to the staff report.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at 101 Sand Creek Rd. in Brentwood.
