East County Youth Cheer rocked the floor recently in Davis at the team’s final competition. The youngest of the four squads, the Jr. Pee Wees, took home a first-place trophy in cheer and second in dance. The Pee Wee division took home a first in cheer and first in dance. The Jr. Midgets took home a first in cheer and dance for the third year in a row. And the Midget cheerleaders brought it home with a first place in cheer and second in dance.

On the gridiron, the season is over for two ECYF football teams, leaving three squads going to first-round playoffs this weekend. The Lions Scout football team finished its season this past weekend with a tough battle against San Ramon T-Birds.

The Scouts boasted one of the best offenses and defenses in the conference thanks to the hard work of Amarion Antonio, Eric Bergen, Glenn Borlongan, Colin Borrelli, Mason Brandy, Tyler Dingle, Jamie Felderman, Ethan Guaragna, Marcus Harper, Anthony James, Josh Just, De Niro Killian, Tyler Leiser, Brendan Mathers, Riley McCullough, Sean Mendoza, Antonio Minero, Cody Muth, Ethan Mueller, Nathan Nyberg, Jon Puckett, Jordan Pope, Jaden Rashada, Dylan Ray, Joseph Roman, Hunter Romeo, Aron Ruiz, Logan Stake, Tanner Viramontes, Bryant Weekly, Ryan Wheeler, Earl Wilkens, Gabriel Zavala and Johny Zuniga.

The East County Youth Football Midget team ended its season with a respectable 5-4 record. Nonetheless, the team finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the tough 18-team Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference and will miss the playoffs after losing the tie-break system.

Coach Dave Smith’s team faced a brutal schedule, playing three of the top four teams on the road this year.

“We played hard all year and really well at times but the tough schedule and injuries gave us little room for error,” Smith said. “I know the boys are disappointed but I couldn’t be more proud of our team. There are going to be some very good high school players coming out of this team.”
