Ysabel Cabreira, a 2010 Freedom High alumna, recently became the first San Joaquin Delta College women’s golfer to advance to the state championship.

Cabreira placed 15th at the recent California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Golf State Championship in Kings Country Club in Hanford. She shot rounds of 81 and 87 for a total score of 168.

Previously at the NorCal regional championship, Cabreira placed third out of 48 participants. She shot an 84 in the first round; a 75 in the next.

“The final round at NorCal and the first round at state, she played really good,” Mustangs head coach Tony Troncale said. “I was really impressed with those two rounds. That’s the way I kind of expected her to play all year.”

A sophomore at Stockton’s Delta College, Cabreira finished ninth overall in the Big 8 Conference.

Two other local graduates have also turned in fine seasons, earning spots on postseason lists. Gonzalo Hernandez, a senior offensive lineman for Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., was recently named to the 2011 All-Heart of America Athletic Conference football team as an honorable mention selection.

The Freedom graduate allowed just one sack and committed only one penalty in 11 games this season, participating in 742 plays for the Wildcats.

Josue Macias, a freshman midfielder and forward for Livermore’s Las Positas College men’s soccer team, earned second-team all-Coast Conference accolades after a successful season for the Hawks. Macias is a Liberty alumnus.
