Tipsy Tow gives New Year’s Eve drivers a lift

Had too much to drink counting down to 2012 and need a safe ride home? AAA’s Tipsy Tow Program offers a free tow for drinking drivers in Northern California, Nevada and Utah – members and non-members alike – from 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve (Saturday, Dec. 31) to 6 a.m. the next morning.

To take advantage of Tipsy Tow, call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP) and tell the operator “I need a Tipsy Tow” for a free tow of up to five miles. Service is restricted to a one-way ride for the driver and his or her vehicle to the driver’s home.

AAA provides its Tipsy Tow service for the following holidays in 2011:

• Super Bowl: 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6 to 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7.

• St. Patrick’s Day: 6 p.m. Thursday, March 17 to 6 a.m. Friday, March 18.

• Cinco de Mayo: 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5 to 6 a.m. Friday, May 6.

• Memorial Day: 6 p.m. Monday, May 30 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 31.

• Independence Day: 6 p.m. Monday, July 4 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 5.

• Labor Day: 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.

• Halloween: 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1.

• Thanksgiving: 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24 to 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25.

• Christmas Eve: 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 to 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25.

• New Year’s Eve: 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 to 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1.
