The American Cancer Relay For Life of Oakley will hold a rally Jan. 12 at the Vintage Parkway Elementary School cafeteria. The rally will feature speakers from the community who have benefited from the funds raised and will honor cancer survivors.

Cancer survivors, caregivers, families, schools, companies and community organizations are expected to use the rally as a launching pad for their fundraising efforts for the year. Participants may also register a team. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be provided.

Participants meet the first Thursday of the month at 7:45 p.m. in the Oakley Unified School District office, 91 Mercedes Lane, Portable 6.

The Relay event will be held April 28 on the Freedom High School track. Last year, Oakley drew more than 300 participants and raised more than $116,000. “We’re hoping to raise awareness about the event so we can have even more community participation,” said Event Chair Tobie Meyer.
