The Brentwood Library, 104 Oak St., hosts new storytime hours through March 1. No registration is required for these free programs.

Lapsit Baby Storytime, designed for children up to age 2, is held Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Even infants benefit from these special sessions. Small children and their caregivers learn easy fingerplays, bounces and songs, and enjoy colorful, engaging picture books. Early exposure to books and the spoken word assists brain development and encourages language skills, creativity and other characteristics that benefit children throughout their lives.

For children 2½ to 3½, the library offers Toddler Time on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. Toddler Time introduces children and their caregivers to a wide variety of books and activities. Reading to children encourages a love of literature, and repetition of fingerplays and songs stimulates learning and focuses attention.

Preschoolers 3½ to 5 will enjoy Picture Book Time, held Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. At this age, children are beginning to refine their vocabulary, develop social skills and retain basic facts. Picture Book Time reinforces important classroom skills such as attentiveness, interaction with an instructor and other children, and knowledge of simple concepts.

Those unable to attend a morning or afternoon program can participate in ongoing Pajama Time Storytime Monday nights at 7. This storytime is open to children of all ages and pajamas are encouraged.

In addition to weekly storytimes, the Brentwood Library also offers a variety of free monthly programs for all ages. For more information, call 925-516-5290 or visit www.ccclib.org. The Brentwood Library is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
