Antioch Police Officer Matt Harger spotted a reported stolen vehicle in the 2300 block of Sycamore Drive. When Harger attempted to stop the vehicle and detain the driver, 18-year-old Antioch resident Douglas Martinez, and his passenger, the two jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Harger and his K9, Thor, gave chase.

When Martinez refused to stop, Thor took him to the ground. Martinez had failed to put the vehicle in parking mode, however, and it continued to roll forward, striking Harger and knocking him to the ground. The vehicle then ran over Thor as he was detaining Martinez. Thor secured Martinez until Harger was able to pull Thor from under the vehicle before the rear tires rolled over Martinez. The vehicle eventually struck a light pole and came to a stop.

Harger sustained minor scrapes and Thor appears to be uninjured. Martinez was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. The Brentwood Police Department dispatched its K9 to assist in the search for the second suspect, but he was not located.
