Vincent Silva

April 12, 1918-Feb. 16, 2012

Longtime Pittsburg resident and native son of the State of New Mexico Vincent Silva left this world on Feb. 16, 2012 to reunite with wife Rose and son Richard. His life of 93 years was filled with love for his family.

Vincent was a World War II hero, a survivor of the Bataan Death March who endured 3½ years as a prisoner of war. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge in addition to numerous other military medals.

Following the war, Vincent resided in California, where he and Rose raised five children. He retired in 1982 from the City of Concord, where he ran the carpentry shop.

Vincent was a singer, poet, writer and harmonica player. He was intelligent, caring and had a sense of humor. Everyone who knew him will remember a good, kind, loving soul with a giving and gracious spirit. His life story can be found in his memoir, “Senso Owari” (the war is ended). Vincent is survived by his children, Linda Gregoire (Roger deceased), Penny Cannon (Chuck), Dr. Vincent Silva Jr. (Bobbee) and Marjorie Silva. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. followed by a vigil at 4 p.m. at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, 2295 Railroad Ave. (925-432-2114.) Committal services will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo on Monday, Feb. 27.
