Led by Pittsburg senior Lachae Banks, four local girls competed at the California Interscholastic Federation wrestling tournament in Lemoore.

Banks, a 235-pound senior, placed eighth in her weight class. She lost her first match to Alana O’Neill of Terra Nova, but claimed victories over Magnolia’s America Martinez, Lancaster’s Cecilia Diaz, and San Benito’s Athena McGoff. In the final rounds, Banks fell to McLane’s Anissa Hernandez and once again to O’Neill in the seventh-place showdown.

Teammate Desirae Coniglio, a 114-pound junior, beat Northview’s Devinie Elizando in the opening round, but lost to Bethel’s Ricki Lian in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Liberty was represented by talented grappler Kristina Diaz, finishing her final season as a Lion. Diaz defeated Charter Oak’s Maria Hernandez in the first round, but fell to eventual second-place finisher Emily Ducote of Los Gatos in the next bout. Bear River’s Darlene Julian beat Diaz in the consolation bracket.

Heritage sophomore Lania Aguayo put in a solid performance at state and showed promise for her final two years as a Patriot. After losing to Lancaster’s Anna Divins in the first round, she toppled Pioneer Valley’s Shyla Espinoza and West Covina’s Justine Steward in the consolation bracket. Her day ended in a loss to Ripon’s Hailey Owens.
