Discovery Bay resident Frank Carbajal will be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame on April 10 in Denver. The former Hartnell College basketball coach will be honored for his accomplishments as an athlete and a coach at the high school and intercollegiate levels.

Carbajal, now 71, was hired at Hartnell in 1995 and retired 10 years later after 44 seasons of coaching at the high school, community college and university level, during which he amassed 662 victories. After starring in basketball and baseball at Greeley High School, Carbajal went on to the University of Northern Colorado, where he earned all-conference honors in both sports.

As a Division 1 all-region pitcher in 1960 and 1961, Carbajal appeared twice in the College World Series. And as a starting guard on the basketball team he led the nation in free-throw percentage.
