When your last name’s Morgan and you own a boat, there’s not much left to decide. At least that’s how Frank Morgan, owner of Captain Morgan’s Delta Adventures, saw it. Now local landlubbers can claim they’ve got a little of the Captain in them.

“I’ve got the name and I’m a licensed captain and I’ve been coming up to the Delta since I was a kid,” said the Discovery Bay resident. “So yeah, it seemed like a natural fit.”

Morgan’s pirate ship is the Rosemarie – named in honor of his mother, who passed away last year – a 55-foot newly remodeled houseboat equipped to whisk patrons away for cruising adventures up and down the Delta. Adventurers can book the Rosemarie for an hourly rate, two-hour cruise, an overnight trip or a variety of special events.

And now Morgan has partnered with Erika and Chris Cookson, owners of the Boardwalk Grill at the Discovery Bay Marina, adding another layer to the cruising adventure and a boost to the local economy. Beginning April 4 and running through October, Morgan and the Cooksons are offering dinner/cruise packages each Wednesday evening. Patrons can enjoy dinner at the Grill before hopping onto the Rosemarie for a two-hour cruise out to Orwood Bridge and back.

“We’re very excited,” said Chris. “Anytime we can get people down to the marina to showcase the heart of Discovery Bay, it’s a good thing. How can it lose? Food, boating, relaxing and sunshine – all the things that personify Discovery Bay.”

May 5 will also mark the first of Morgan’s wine exchange cruises, a once a month, two-hour BYOW (bring your own wine) party that offers a cruise up and down the Delta and an opportunity to mix, mingle and share wines. Co-host Sasville Properties will provide commemorative wine glasses to each participant.

“Our wine exchange cruises will be the first Saturday of every month for five months,” said Morgan. “And everyone brings a bottle of wine and we open them all, and it’s up to everyone if they want to share. It can be a $3 bottle of wine or a $300 bottle, and of course, you can bring more than one if you want. It’s a cool way to meet new people and sample some wines.”

For Morgan and girlfriend Melinda Lamb – the Rosemarie’s resident “wench” – the adventure cruises are all about showcasing the beautiful sites in and around the Delta. “This is not really about making money; it’s about letting people experience the Delta and enjoy themselves,” said Morgan. “It’s already been a lot of fun; we’re looking forward to the rest.”
