Jessica McPeek and Summer Salisbury, eighth-graders at Holy Rosary School in Antioch, won second prize in the recent Contra Costa County Science & Engineering Fair, held at Los Medanos College.

Jessica and Summer competed in the Junior Division of the Biological Science category under the guidance of science teacher Brian Swanson. The girls’ project examined the effects of radio frequency emitted through cellular panel antennas (similar to those used in cell phone technology) on plants at varying distances.

Judges included representatives from John Muir Health and Bio-Rad Laboratories. Way to go, girls!
