In addition to a 5K, 10K, half marathon and Mt. Diablo’s only point-to-point 50K event, the upcoming Diablo Trails Challenge offers awe-inspiring scenery. The Challenge, which benefits the nonprofit organization Save Mount Diablo, will be held Saturday, April 21.

“It’s the best way to celebrate Earth Day,” said Save Mount Diablo Advancement Director Julie Seelen. “While you connect with and enjoy the Diablo wilderness on the 21st, proceeds benefit Save Mount Diablo’s land preservation work so you have more to enjoy in the future.”

Save Mount Diablo preserves, defends and restores Mount Diablo’s natural lands for people and wildlife to enjoy. “It’s an incredible place,” said Dave Husted, a 50K runner and Save Mount Diablo board member. “You get up here and there’s nothing to hear but the birds and the trees. People don’t know how great it is until they get up here.”

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. in Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek. The 50K pushes off at 8 a.m.; all other races at 9 a.m. To register or for more information, visit www.savemountdiablo.org or call 925-947-3535.
