Heritage High 2011 graduate Ryan Howell, now a freshman outfielder for Oregon State, will continue developing his skills this summer as a member of the Wenatchee AppleSox in Washington.

Howell was named the Bay Valley Athletic League Offensive Player of the Year following his final season at Heritage. He hit .466 as a high school senior, driving in nine runs and stealing seven bases. The freshman has seen limited action for the Beavers, appearing in six games this spring.

“Like most players who have not seen a lot of action in the school season, I’m sure he will be chomping at the bit to get out on the field when he gets here this summer,” said AppleSox manager Ed Knaggs.

The AppleSox are part of the West Coast League, one of the premier wooden-bat summer college leagues in the country.

Four AppleSox alumni have reached the major leagues: Jason Hammel (Colorado Rockies), Clay Mortensen (Boston Red Sox), Cole Gillespie (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Tom Milone (Oakland Athletics).
