A Brentwood man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of stealing $1,900 from Chase Bank in Discovery Bay on Wednesday, April 11.

According to Lt. Alan Johnson, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office detectives detained Daniel John Olejnik, 23, charging him with robbery and commercial burglary. “This is a great example of diligence and teamwork,” Johnson wrote in an e-mail. “Through a cooperative effort and the timely sharing of information we were able to conduct a thorough investigation leading to the arrest of the suspect. I am proud of the work done by the Delta Station Deputies and Sheriff’s Investigators.”

On April 11 at 1:04 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a call from bank staff reporting that a white man, dressed in dark clothing, walked into the bank and demanded money. A press release from Johnson notes that Olejnik left Chase Bank with about $1,900.

Deputies arrived a few minutes later and searched the area, but failed to find a suspect.

In the days following the robbery, Delta Station Patrol deputies and sheriff’s office detectives conducted a thorough investigation. Pursuing leads and evidence, detectives identified and arrested Olejnik.

Olejnik was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. Bail is set at $120,000.
