The Brentwood Chamber of Commerce this week alerted its members to a possible scam involving posters that employers are required to display in their place of business.

“There are two men, and a man and a women, going to local businesses saying that they are from the state, requesting to see your Business Employment Poster,” Harry York, chamber CEO wrote in an e-mail alert. “Then they try to sell you a poster for $118. These men and women are not legitimate.”

Local police have been alerted to the scam, York said, and anyone encountering the people involved should call 911.

Businesspersons can find out more about California poster requirements by logging on to the Web and searching for Posters. For federal requirements, go to Department of Labor.

Required posters can be downloaded free via official government sites. Laminated, all-in-one versions are available commercially for about $20.
