An Antioch man who accidentally shot and killed his brother was arrested on Saturday.

According to a press release from the Antioch Police Department, 41-year-old George Enriquez was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and illegal possession of an assault weapon. He was sent to the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez and released on bail Sunday.

The release states that Enriquez invited his brother to his house on the 2300 block of Cambridge Drive on Saturday to show him a gun he recently purchased. As the two men were looking at the gun, it went off, striking Enriquez’s 36-year-old brother, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enriquez called police at 6:39 p.m. on Saturday, informing officers that he had accidentally shot his brother. Police officers plus fire and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene shortly thereafter and found the victim, who has sustained a single gunshot wound.
