Marvel Virginia Emerson

Beloved wife and mother, Marvel Emerson, passed away peacefully on the warm and sunny morning of Aug. 30, 2007 after a long struggle with end-stage dementia. Born in August of 1925 in Juneau, Alaska, where she enjoyed much of her childhood, Marvel eventually found her way to the California Bay Area and then to Brentwood, where she resided for the past eight years.

Marvel met and married her husband of 46 years, Harry, while living on the Peninsula, where she devoted herself to raising a wonderful family and cultivating many friendships. She was an active member and volunteer of St. Charles parish and school, where she was appreciated for her many hours of service, whether performing secretarial duties in the church office or serving hot dogs in the school's cafeteria.

Marvel always made birthdays and holidays a real celebration and loved to gather the family together for wonderful dinners, which were always followed by a tasty dessert. At Christmastime, we would always look forward to her fudge, the best in the world, and a recipe that no one could ever quite duplicate.

Marvel also enjoyed singing in Sweet Adelines, square dancing, vacationing in the mountains with her family, and finally slowing down to enjoy her retirement years. She will be remembered for her upbeat and cheery personality, her laughter, and all the loving hugs and kisses she lavished on her family.

Marvel will be very much missed by her husband, Harry; daughters, Julie and Lisa; their husbands, Ray and Steve; and her four grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittany, Myles and Danielle.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 5 at Brentwood Funeral Home in Brentwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Marvel's favorite charity: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Contributions may also be made online at www.stjudeheroes/goto/marvel.emerson.
