Knightsen elementary school officials last week celebrated the district's first new school in nearly 75 years with a groundbreaking ceremony at the new site on Bixler Road. "We are quite excited to be here today," said Knightsen School Superintendent Vickey Rinehart, on the left above directing the ground-breaking ceremony. "But we'll be even more excited once the walls start to go up. It's a wonderful day." Named Old River Elementary School, the $14 million project is being paid for with developer fees and a financial hardship grant. The school will be built in two phases. Phase One will include three buildings, house 18 classrooms and offices. Expected to open in July of 2008, the K-8 school will initially welcome approximately 400 students. Phase Two will take three years to complete and will include the school's library and multi-purpose room.
