A pair of standout athletes at Deer Valley High School recently announced their plans for college, as star center Ashley Ellis has decided on the University of Kansas, and Shenise Cox, a two-sport standout in both basketball and softball, has committed to the University of New Mexico. Both girls will make their commitments official when they

sign their letters of intent at a press conference Nov. 14.

Ellis, a 6-foot, 3-inch post presence, is rated as one of the top high school girls basketball players in the country and has helped lead Deer Valley to a 70-15 record heading into her senior season. The All-Stars Girls Report ranks Ellis as the 78th best prospect in the country and the 15th best center in this year's graduating class. She has also received All-American honorable mention from Street and Smith magazine.

Cox not only contributed to the tremendous success of the Lady Wolverines basketball team; she helped lead the softball team to a North Coast Section playoff berth last season. A versatile athlete, Cox played multiple positions for the Deer Valley softball team last year, earning All-League honorable mention at third base despite playing the bulk of the season in the outfield.
