The Napa Saints couldn't stop the Lions, for whom Tanner Cooper and Alex Higley combined to score four touchdowns. The Saints were able to muster only a single touchdown of their own against the stalwart Lion defense led by Roman Ambriz, Chad Dias, Mataio Madrigal and Dylan Mathers.
Junior Pee Wees (2-1)
In the hardest-hitting game all season for both East County and Napa, the Saints were slowed down by the aggressive play of Lion linebackers Jesse Gregerson and Justin Young. On the defensive line, Gerardo Banuelos, Trent Ornsby and Michael Figarora each made multiple hard-hitting tackles. The offense was led by quarterback Jacob Knight, who completed a signature 50-yard scoring strike to Malik Edwards, who dodged a slew of Saint defenders on his way to the end zone.
Pee Wees (3-0)
Quarterback Daniel Bodishbaugh led the Lion offense in its 42-6 rout. Jaeger Brooks and Martrell Banks each enjoyed great days running through the gaping holes created by offensive lineman Nikko Ortiz, Hunter Machado, Jordan Gragg and Alec Espino.
Junior Midgets (2-1)
The Lions got phenomenal rushing performances from backs Nick Manzo and Jeffrey Lindsay, marching over the Saints for a 32-14 win. Defensively, the Lions overwhelmed Napa thanks to punishing hits by Johnny Hemenes, Roman Florez and Ray Macahlig, plus the smothering coverage of defensive back Nate Buzas.
The Lion Midgets remained undefeated, earning a 30-6 win over the Saints. The offensive line of Robert Huber, William Velasquez, Frank Fergusen, Frank Cisneros, Ryan Banuelos, Josh Baxter and Steven Christiansen dominated the line of scrimmage, allowing the Lions to amass 346 yards of offense. Kenny Walker returned the opening kickoff for a spectacular 67-yard touchdown, repeating his performance from last week. Caleb Moravec ran for over 100 yards and a touchdown while Ryan Howell and Zach Jamison each caught touchdown passes.
The defense came through with another outstanding performance, allowing only 27 total yards as it shut down the Saints Wing T offense.
The East County Lions take on the Walnut Creek Marauders at Liberty High School on Saturday, Sept. 29.
