More than 300 boys and ghouls of all ages recently made their way to the first Rivertown Pumpkin Day in downtown Antioch.

The kids were given a free pumpkin to paint and enter in a contest. A large crowd cheered on the youngsters participating in the Pumpkin Seed Spitting Contest, which was won by 11-year-old Andrew Luna with a distance of 23 feet, 3 inches.

There was also a pumpkin carving demonstration by Christina Belleci, a costume exchange, temporary tattoos and, most popular of all: trick-or-treat at Rivertown businesses.

"East County residents are yearning for these types of wholesome, family-oriented events, and the businesses in the Rivertown Business District are happy to provide them," said Stephanie Standridge, owner of Something Cherished.

Winners of the Pumpkin Painting Contest were Kassidy Cook, Annalise Villa, Brianna Olmedo, Ellis Hairston and Amber San Miguel.
