Heritage High School Principal Andy Parsons signed with a smile seven applications to the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for the Distinguished Scholastic Team Award. The honor recognizes the academic achievement of athletic teams that hold a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and above.

Heritage teams that qualified to make an application for the award were the Boys Varsity Cross Country team with a cumulative GPA of 3.41, coached by Jennifer Guerrero; the Boys Varsity Water Polo team (3.32 GPA, coached by Sam Somerhalder); the Girls Varsity Water Polo team (3.25 GPA, coached by Jessica Araujo); the Varsity Girls Golf team (3.53 GPA, coached by Mark Tinder); the Varsity Girls Tennis team (3.69 GPA, coached by Annie Ward); the Varsity Boys Football team (3.0 GPA, including the playoffs, coached by Jeff Haagenson); and for the second year in a row, the Varsity Girls Volleyball team (3.47 GPA, coached by Janet Hannigan).

Parsons thanked his entire staff for "this incredible accomplishment," and in particular, the coaches for ensuring that academics remain the priority at Heritage. Parsons also thanked the student-athletes for their hard work, and their parents for their support. Recipients of the Fall 2007 Distinguished Scholastic Team Award will be announced at the end of November.
