Mary Black, curriculum director of the Brentwood Unified School System, and Patty Bristow, retired administrator at Bristow Middle School, have been elected to the Board of Directors of the Brentwood Art Society.

For several years the Art Society has donated thousands of dollars to Brentwood schools for art supplies and art education. It established an art docent program of volunteers to teach art in the schools and has hosted a special student art show at the art gallery in the Technology Center on Sand Creek Road.

The Art Society has been in negotiations with the city to take over the civic operations of the Brentwood Art Commission, including the annual downtown Art Walk, the Art, Wine and Jazz Festival in the fall, the open-mike reading program, the art gallery shows, and will support the annual library city read program. With the closing of the Technology Center next year, the art society will be looking for a new art gallery in town.

The Art Society has retained the services of Peggy Schuitermaker, owner of Home Grown Promotions, to chair next year's Art, Wine and Jazz Festival and help build membership in the Art Society. Other members of the Brentwood Art Society Board of Directors include Jan Melloni, Ron Beatty, Joe Trebino, Kathy Baroody, Helen Myers and Emile Geddes.
