The sheriff's comment in last week's article, that went something like "if you don't report it, we can't help you," made my blood boil.
As a resident of Disco Bay for over 20 years, I have been the victim of car theft, car break-ins, mail theft and mailbox destruction. I have had to move my mailbox three times as well as replace it three times.
My last call to the sheriff's department was last year, when some of our "bored" children deemed it necessary to go down the boulevard and destroy several mailboxes. The sheriff's deputy who responded to my call was clearly disgusted that he had to respond to my complaint and basically told me that the kids out here are bored, and I should have a security camera that records videos. Then maybe they can do something about my problem.
So it was clearly my fault because I don't purchase a camera. He also told me they were cheap - about $200.
He also told my next-door neighbor the same thing. Our feelings about the sheriff's department's attitude and effectiveness are "abysmal," to use Mr. Pastorini's words.
I would dearly love to hear the sheriff's comments on this!
