The removal of some of the sheet-pile walls used to complete the breeching of a levee on Sand Mound Slough testified to the continued progress of the Delta Coves waterfront project on Bethel Island. The 495 single-family home project will feature a 160-foot-wide channel providing access to the community's new marina. The channel design requires the breaching of the nearby levee. "I know that some of the pilings are gone, but I'm not sure when the rest will go," said Sheila Goodson, director of the Bethel Island Municipal Improvement District (BIMID). "The developers haven't let us know exact dates yet, but I would imagine the rest will come out sometime soon."
