Daniel Goodnight, left, and Joseph Graves serve in the U.S. Coast Guard. Seaman Joseph Graves, a Discovery Bay resident, is stationed in Ketchikan, Ala., on the USCGC Acushnet. He'll be leaving Ketchikan soon and attending A School in Petaluma to begin training as a boarding team member on the East Coast. Graves lived down the street from the late Joey Graves. The two were good friends. Joseph admits it was tricky attending Liberty High School with someone with the same name. Joseph's parents, Dave and Paula Graves, live in Discovery Bay. Fireman Goodnight grew up in Brentwood and attended Freedom High School in Oakley. He is stationed for the next two months in Kodiak, Ala., on the Alex Haley patrolling the Bering Sea. When he returns from duty in Alaska he hopes to attend Damage Control A school in Yorktown, Va. Goodnight's parents, Steve and Cherie, live in Brentwood.
