Deana Gunn and Wona Miniati, women who love food, cooking and Trader Joe's, found themselves wishing there were a cookbook devoted to their favorite grocer. When they realized one didn't exist, they decided to write it themselves, and called it Cooking With All Things Trader Joe's.

There are thousands of cookbooks out there, but none specifically written for Trader Joe's, said Gunn. The unique products Trader Joe's carries lend themselves to standout, flavorful meals that can be made in a fraction of the time it would take if you shopped at a regular grocery store and made everything from scratch.

They point out that Trader Joe's takes the place of a chef's prep kitchen. Their cookbook shows fans how to make the most of Trader Joe's prep kitchen items, including specialty sauces, dips, prepped vegetables and pre-marinated meats. In today's busy world, more Americans turn to take-out or fast food, but Gunn and Miniati stand firm that you can put a homemade gourmet dinner on the table in minutes, every day, without sacrificing flavor or quality.

What I love most about this cookbook is that every recipe can be made with ingredients that are available at Trader Joe's, says Miniati. As a mom of two young kids, I don't have the time to shop at multiple grocery stores. We specifically wrote each recipe using ingredients Trader Joe's carries, from specialty sauces like Trader Ming's Soyaki to staples like milk, flour and spices. So this cookbook is a great time-saver, not only because the recipes themselves are easy and fast, but also because you shop at only one place to make these fabulous meals.

It's Trader Joe's, says Gunn, so you know the food will be high quality without the long list of preservatives and chemicals. For those who've wished for more ideas on how to use favorite products or a new item, this cookbook offers a fresh take on speedy gourmet cooking.

The cookbook has been likened to the Whole Foods Market Cookbook, published by Whole Foods in 2002. Recently, Whole Foods named Trader Joe's its toughest competitor. Gunn and Miniati chuckle that this cookbook might give Trader Joe's another edge. The Whole Foods Market Cookbook' has sold well in the market, says Miniati. It's only fitting that Trader Joe's should have a cookbook showcasing its eclectic assortment of products, too.

Gunn and Miniati are already working on the next edition and plan to publish new recipes regularly, showcasing new items as they appear on Trader Joe's shelves. Are they worried about inventory changing or items getting discontinued? Not at all, says Gunn. We've been making some of these recipes for many years.

Although it's true that items come and go, it's been our personal experience that most of the items have stayed consistent over the years. We do offer substitution ideas in case an item is discontinued, and that's part of the cooking adventure. We hope fellow foodies find it equally fun to come up with new variations on our recipes.

Fans can buy the new cookbook at www.cookingwithtraderjoes.com, at select bookstores including Borders, or by calling 800-517-6861.
