Six young women from Contra Costa County were interviewed in the recent Fair Queen competition held at the county Fairgrounds in Antioch, and the candidate who walked away with the crown was 20-year-old Freedom High School graduate Jamie Lue.
Lue is currently attending Los Medanos College, where she'll graduate in January with an associates degree. She plans to attend Cal State East Bay, earn a bachelor's degree in mass communications and pursue a career in public relations. Jamie, a lifelong resident of Contra Costa County, is a member of Delta 4-H and Danville Grange. Her other interests include dancing, cheerleading and watercolor painting.
The Contra Costa County Fair Queen serves as an ambassador for the fair this year entitled The Treasure in Your Backyard which will be held from May 29 to June 1. The queen's duties include helping out with kid's contests, making special appearances at community events and acting as an overall spokesperson for the duration of her yearlong reign.
Fair organizers have expressed confidence that Lue will serve as an excellent example for the county's youth. In addition to her tiara, sash and cash award, Jamie will receive a gift donated by the Antioch Lions Club.
