Lance Cpl. Matthew L. Valenzuela of Brentwood is presently serving his first tour of duty in Iraq on a seven-month deployment in the Ramadi area. He is with the 1st Battalion 9th Marines from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. Valenzuela graduated from Liberty High School in 2001 and worked as an Engineering Specialist for the City of San Ramon before enlisting with the U.S. Marine Corps. He is the son of Ed and Cecilia Valenzuela of Brentwood.
