Brentwood's inaugural Chili Cook-off, an event benefiting Delta Community Services, Inc., takes place May 17 at the Brentwood Community Center, 730 Third St., from 6 to 10 p.m.
Known for its annual CornFest, Brentwood is now putting chili on the map. Everyone is invited to pit their pot of chili against the competition, from businesses and residents to restaurant chefs. The first-place winner will take home $350 and bragging rights to the best chili in far East County. Second place earns $200; third, $100.
The Chili Cook-off will include live music and comedy. Chili will be served along with snacks, ice cream and refreshments (beer, wine, soda and water). The event also features a live and silent auction fundraiser. Celebrity guests from the Oakland Raiders will also be in attendance. The program's emcee will be local comedienne Charleen Earley.
Proceeds from the Chili Cook-off will go to the Community Chest Grant started by the late Rose Pierce to support Delta Community Services, Inc., which helps seniors and low-income families in need.
