The Best jazz duo on the planet, according to Bobby McFerrin, will be gracing the stage at Antioch's El Campanil Theatre next weekend.

If ever a musical pair embodied the term simpatico, it would be guitarist Tuck Andress and singer Patti Cathcart. Andress is a world-class guitarist imbued with the rare gift of good taste. His musical partner and wife, Patti Cathcart, is an uncommonly soulful and inventive jazz stylist and among the best scat singers since Ella Fitzgerald. Together they create magic, a kind of jazzy chamber music that's deceptively simple on the surface but reveals layers of subtle complexity with each additional listening.

The duo's knack for original interpretations of other people's songs remains their strong suit. Unencumbered yet passionate arrangements display the panache that elevates Tuck and Patti above the jazz brunch moniker, and underscores their music's timeless beauty. In Leonard Feather's opinion, Not since Ella Fitzgerald met Joe Pass on stage has there been so felicitous a mating as Tuck and Patti.

Tuck and Patti will take the stage Saturday, May 17 at 8 p.m.; the doors open at 7:15 p.m. Gold section reserved seating is $40; general admission is $25 for adults; $20 for seniors; and $15 for students. The El Campanil Theatre is located at 602 W. Second St. For tickets and Information, call 925-757-9500 or visit www.elcampaniltheatre.com.
